BIOGRAPHY

(BA Vis Art, BA Sec Ed. Dip Graph Des).

Amica Whincop (b.1978) is a contemporary Australian, emerging artist, recognised for her undulating ‘stone’ like forms which float gently around the canvas.   Predominantly influenced by the intricacies of nature, its fragility and strength, there is something simultaneously tranquil and passionate about the pieces she creates.

Her love of nature grew from a nostalgic ‘Enid Blyton’  style childhood, living beside the rugged seashores of the Isle of Wight, England, before travelling the world with her adventurous family and finally immigrating and settling in Brisbane. Art has always been her vehicle from which to channel peace, quiet the mind, and inspire her soul. Her hope is that this calm energy transfers to the viewer.

Educated as  a visual art artist and educator, she graduated from the Queensland University of Technology in 2003, holding a Bachelor of Visual Arts and a Bachelor of Secondary Education. After graduating, Amica stayed home to raise her three children, whilst also taking on private painting commissions.

In 2008, Amica moved with her husband and children to live on the Sunshine Coast, working as a Visual Art Teacher and Artist.
